About me
Hi, I'm Carlos Rodríguez, Lecturer at Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and Universidad Comunera (UCOM). I'm also Lead Data Scientist at Software Natura. Previously, I was Information Technology Consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Associate Lecturer / Research Associate at UNSW Sydney (2016-2019) and Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Trento, Italy (2013-2016). I do scientific research and consultancy in Information Technology.The main research and professional areas in which I am currently working include Crowdsourcing, Service-Oriented Computing and Business Process Management. Other areas I'm interested in are Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Computing (applied to Process Management) and Data Science. For more details, you can check out my profile at LinkedIn.
Education and experience
- From 2021 to present: Lead Data Scientist at Software Natura. Leading the design and development of data science solutions for the education sector.
- From 2020 to present: Lecturer in Charge at Universidad Comunera (UCOM) in the specializations on (core) Data Analytics, Big Data Analytics and Machine Learning. More specifically, teaching courses on Business Intelligence, Process Intelligence (Process Mining), Big Data Management and Machine Learning.
- Research Fellow at CONACYT-Paraguay (2020 to present) and Visting Fellow (2021 to present) at UNSW Sydney. Working on research topics including Cognitive Case Management, Business Process Management, Service-Oriented Computing and Crowdsourcing
- From 2019 to present: Lecturer at Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Asunción, Paraguay). Teaching courses on services design and engineering, and advising Master (research) students on applying NLP techniques to information retrieval, tagging and management of alerts regarding software vulnerabilities.
- From 2019 to 2021: Information Technology Consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Worked on facilitating and supporting the development process of an intellectual property management system in the context of a cooperation between the Korean Institute of Patent Information (KIPI) and the Paraguayan government
- From 2016 to 2019: Associate Lecturer / Research Associate at CSE, UNSW Sydney. Worked on the topics of computational services for data curation and quality control, Cognitive Case Management and Crowdsourcing
- From 2013 to 2016: Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, University of Trento, Italy. Worked on the projects e2Call and Collegamenti. 2Call was a joint project with FIAT and Telecom Italia for the research of algorithms and techniques for the analysis and elaboration of vehicular and extra-vehicular information in the context of road safety information systems. Collegamenti focused on the study and development of ICT tools to support intergenerational connections between older adults and their younger relatives and friends. On a different track, I also did research in a joint project with Telecom Italia where we worked on big data analytics in the context of mobile Internet traffic for understanding network loads, usage by consumers and the use of web APIs
- In 2011: Visiting Researcher at the Hewlett-Packard Research Lab (HP Labs), Palo Alto (CA), USA. Spent 3 months doing research on the topics of data and mobile mashups
- From 2009 to 2013: Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, University of Trento, Italy. Worked on the topics of Business Process Management, Service-based Business Processes, Process Mining, Business Process Compliance and Assisted Mashup Development. Thesis title: Exploiting Business Process Knowledge for Process Improvement
- From 2008 to 2009: Research Engineer at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, University of Trento, Italy. Collaborated in the European research projects MASTER and COMPAS (see bellow)
